Yaakov Farkash was born in 1923 in Budapest, Hungary. He created a newspaper with caricatures at the age of 12 and handed it out in the neighborhood. In 1947 he immigrated to Israel, was drafted to the 7th Armored Brigade and actively participated in the Battles of Latrun during the War of Independence. In his first years in Israel he worked in construction and paved roads while also beginning his career in art. He sold his first caricature to the Omer newspaper and that same year was also published in Dvar HaShavua and Maariv LaNoar.
From 1952 onwards his works were regular additions to Maariv and throughout 1962-2002 he had a section in Haaretz called “Caricatura Yomit”. His works were also published in foreign newspapers, including The New York Times and La Monde, and in several American weeklies such as Time, Newsweek and the German Der Spiegel.
Farkash passed away on October 15, 2002.
