Research by: Daniel Goldstein / Opening: May 6 at 19:00The exhibition X+Y Israeli Comics 1995-2010 reviews the work of eighty Israeli comics artists that have been active since the mid-‘90s.The last fifteen years have been a time of thriving creativity for Israeli comics with more and more artists from all corners of society joining the circle. Local work has also been popular across the sea, proving once again that comics are a universal art form that crosses the geographical and cultural divide. In contrast to years past, the new Israeli comics cannot be characterized by one theme or one cohesive agenda. Now this art spans a wide range of topics from social critique to biographies to fantasy and religion. The exhibition provides a platform of debate between comics artists and six writers: Kobi Oz, Dr. Yaara Bar-On, Avner Brenhemer, Yael Targen, Niza Levavi and Tzur Shizaf – all of which have been invited to examine the language of contemporary comics and the way it is reflected in Israeli society.
